AREAS OF EXPERTISE:
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
I am an executive leader creating new economic value in service markets through the application of artificial intelligence and digital capabilities.
My hands-on work as a senior executive emphasizes long-term collaborations with teams to lead technology-driven change. I start at the highest level of imparting intellectual understanding of the way artificial intelligence and other digital applications function and how they will evolve a market—work I have been doing since I was a professor at Harvard Business School and created some of the first thought-leadership on the coming world of AI (Putting Expert Systems to Work, Harvard Business Review (HBR) 1988), and digital competition (Managing in the Marketspace, HBR 1994, Exploiting the Virtual Value Chain, HBR 1995). From that foundation of knowledge, I work with teams to develop technology- and data-driven businesses to capture new sources of value.
I am also fascinated by what drives successful growth businesses, and am passionate about sharing that learning with others. For the past ten years I have led The Exchange, an award-winning executive think tank whose members include executives from GE, GM, Google, and Walmart. I conceived and led the first study on self-made billionaires to document the personal traits that enable them to achieve breakthrough growth in existing markets, and advise companies on ways to attract and retain people with these traits, captured in my 2015 book, The Self-Made Billionaire Effect: How Extreme Producers Create Massive Value (with PwC Vice Chairman Mitch Cohen – R).
I welcome opportunities to collaborate with executives on the bleeding edge of technology-driven change. Please reach out to start a conversation.
